SHIFNAL TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB
LAST
A BRIEF HISTORY OF SHIFNAL TOWN F.C.

Record books reveal the existence of Shifnal Town F.C. as far back as the last century, however the modern day club was founded as recently as 1964, originally named St Andrews Youth Club F.C.. As members of the local Wellington and District League, the club's first significant event was the involvement of the present day President. As a result, the organisation of the club improved, the first change of identity also occurred, with the resurrection of another historic name from the Town's footballing past, Shifnal Juniors becoming the team's new name.

The Club's first honours came in 1968, when after finishing runners-up in the third division of the Wellington League they were promoted to Division two. They again finished runners-up, the decision was then made to bypass the first division of that league, and Shifnal Juniors were promoted to the higher Shropshire County League. Still based at their original Idsall School home, the club's first year was a disaster, they failed to win a league match and finished bottom. Ken Jones was appointed Manager; with the inclusion of three players the team won the division in 1971. They then went on to win the Premier Division Cup and Consolation Cup in 1972. The final change of name to Shifnal Town came in 1972. After lifting the Premier Division Cup again in 1975, the club's finest hour in County League membership occurred, when the following year the Premier Division Championship was accompanied by an appearance in the Welsh Intermediate Cup final, losing to Cardiff College at Knighton Town F.C..
